UCI Transportation manages roadways that serve tens of thousands of vehicles traveling to and from campus per day. Traffic flow is monitored regularly to ensure optimized signal operation during your daily commute.

Our traffic systems coordinator oversees all traffic signalization managed through a computer located near the intersection. This system uses sensors embedded in the road's surface to detect vehicles and bicycles, and manual push buttons for pedestrian detection. The computer processes the sensors information and keeps track of any vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians that need to cross the intersection. Based on the computer programming and sensor input, it will provide optimum green indications and pedestrian walk symbols to minimize delay
