Thank you for your interest in joining Guest and Event Services. The following information is provided to help you understand what the job duties of a Parking Assistant are, what we are looking for in potential candidates, and how our selection process works.

The Parking Assistant position is divided into two levels. All students begin at Level One. Advancement to the next level depends upon your job performance, reliability, length of employment, and your expressed interest in advancing. Since the number of duties in any given week varies, so will the number of hours an attendant is scheduled each week. Our office is open 6 a.m. until 12 a.m. every day of the week (though we do schedule occasional overnight shifts). It is important to keep this in mind when listing your availability - the more hours you make available, the easier it will be for us to schedule you. Therefore, if you are depending on this job for rent or fees, this may not be the position you want.

We are always looking for great students to join our team and accept applications year-round. However, we hire and train groups of students at a time and wait until the present group is done with training until bringing in the next group. For this reason, you may experience a delay in being contacted from the time you submit your application.

Requirements for employment at Guest and Event Services

  • Must have a valid California driver's license
  • Must be a full time UCI student
  • Subject to a background check
  • Must be available to work weekends and 12-20 hours per week

Level One

Information booths, event permit sales, barricading, and cart driving:
Parking Assistants at this level sell parking permits and help campus visitors with directions and general campus information at the Information Kiosks. The parking assistants also barricade roads and parking spaces for event. Occasionally they may also drive carts to transport guests to an event location.

Level Two

Traffic direction, equipment set-up, bike program, and disability shuttle driving:
In addition to the above duties, Parking Assistants at level two will direct traffic at road intersections and parking lot entrances, will set-up road signs and event equipment, and will occasionally transport UCI affiliates that require the use of our disability shuttle. The training program for traffic direction consists of a beginning video session and a minimum of twelve hours of supervised training. Traffic directors are only allowed to direct unsupervised after passing a final evaluation.

In addition to these two levels we also have a variety of special teams available that can provide a wide variety of training and experience. Some of our teams include:

  • Bike Program

  • Civil Engineering CAD Team
  • Event Coordination
